HELEN ‘HALLIE’ MARIE MCDERMOTT, 85, of Skowhegan, Maine, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2017. Helen was born November 2, 1931 in Great Falls, Montana. She was the only child of John and Veronica (Tokarski) Berlinsky. She grew up in Billings, Montana where her father and uncle opened Billings Neon Sign. She graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1949. She played the violin from the time she was four years old. As a true sign of her versatility, she spent one summer at Interlochen Music School (1949) and another summer working at a dude ranch (1950). She received her nursing degree at Carroll College in Helena, Montana.

In July, 1952, she married Arthur McDermott. The Marine Corps took the family all over the country. Finally settling in Kansas City, she worked at the Marine Corps Finance Center. After retiring, she worked for The Little Sisters of the Poor. She was a devout Catholic andto jazz and classical music, and reading. She loved her books almost as much as her children.

Helen was a devoted mother and grandmother.  She is survived by her six children ~ Kathi McDermott, Patti Platia, Tim McDermott, Mary Claypool, Eileen Ehernberger, and Dan McDermott, her ten grandchildren ~ FreeDom, Carl, Ashley, Lauren, Maddie, Katy, Coby, Alyssa, Kelsey, and Ryley, and two great grandsons ~ Phoenix and Cedar. She is preceded in death by her parents, eldest son John, and granddaughter Amanda. The family is planning a service and interment in Billings, Montana later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your local animal rescue or shelter.

Rest peacefully Sweet Helen ~ you are loved and will be deeply missed.
